About ScanBodAI

Compare scan body geometry with reference evidence.

ScanBodAI is a patent-pending AI identification engine for dental implant scan bodies. We help dental laboratories and prosthodontists investigate an unknown scan body by comparing the available geometry with catalog references.

The problem we solve

Dental laboratories routinely receive intraoral scans with scan bodies attached — but the case sheet is missing, incomplete, or identifies the wrong system. Identifying the scan body by sight alone is time-consuming and error-prone, because many models look similar in a digital scan.

ScanBodAI compares dimensions, surface shape, and cross-section profiles with available reference geometry. The result includes ranked candidates and evidence limits. Scan quality, visible geometry, and catalog coverage affect what can be determined; similar top caps may leave the underlying connection unresolved.

How the engine works

Geometric fingerprinting

The engine measures visible geometry and compares shape evidence with references. Missing surfaces, artifacts, and orientation uncertainty can affect the result.

Reference catalog

Catalog entries and searchable geometry are tracked separately. A listed model is not a guarantee that usable reference geometry is available or that its identity has been validated.

Evidence and uncertainty

Ranked candidates support investigation. A brand or family suggestion does not establish a hidden implant connection, and an insufficient-evidence result should remain unresolved.

Upload privacy controls

Uploads are processed on our servers. Filename aliases and selected metadata cleaning reduce identifying text; scan results and diagnostic data may be retained. Review our privacy page before uploading.

Built by a clinician-engineer

ScanBodAI was created by Lane Michael Coulson — an engineer with deep roots in dental CAD/CAM workflows. After seeing labs and clinicians lose time identifying unknown scan bodies on live cases, Lane set out to build the definitive identification tool.

The underlying fingerprint algorithm is the subject of a USPTO provisional patent application filed May 2026. Catalog provenance and reference geometry are reviewed separately from the accuracy of a result on a real scan.
